Mini F56JCW problems
Discussion
Would just like to add to the forum the problems already encountered with my new (01/09/2015) mini JCW, and most not covered by warranty;
Month 2 - Idrive system stops working, reset by dealership ( Faifield Leigh on Sea)
Month 2 - Idrive system automatically resets all settings back to factory settings clearing all memorised radio and sat nav settings , checked by dealership no fault found,
Month 3 - brake dust from front brakes starting to Pitt wheels (3000 miles) - not covered by warranty
Month 4 - Paint starting to peel from front brake calipers - not covered by warranty but dealership is replacing
Month 4 - black bonnet stripes started to show white through - dealership replacing
Month 4 - headlights condensating up -covered by warranty
Month 4 - drivers seat squeaking badly - dealership looking at moment
Month 4 - noticed that when doors are open the back edge off the A panel/door shut not painted ( how can paint warranty be valid without paint) - dealership painting
Month 4 - hooter not working on every press - covered by warranty
At the moment the car is at the dealership with them carrying out month 4 problems but I have already instigated to them that I am not happy with paying almost £30000 for something that has had so many faults so early on, if anyone else has had the pitting problem on the wheels I would like to know as Mini UK are not interested, I wouldn't mind and could understand if the car was 4-5 years old but not 3 months, but having said that I also own a 4 year old Mercedes SL63 AMG with bigger and hotter brakes than the JCW and no signs of pitting, both vehicles wheels are cleaned with a non caustic traffic film remover.

Tbe horn issue is being debated on the f56 forum it onky works if you prees it in a certain way
Theirs a issues with the door seals rubbing the paint off the door shuts because they to hard which their is a fix if you persevere
Squeaky sests aren't unusual
Is the radio and nav ok now ?

Agree about the TFR I'm afraid, especially if you have the 18s with the diamond cut bits.
Interesting about the door seals, I had to polish this out and have installed some armourfend. Was going to raise next time I'm in -is it a redesigned seal?

The premis is that it will soften or loosen stuck on dirt. It's the stuff hand car washes spray on before washing your car (if you use them). Most are acidic and whilst some claim to be harmless Or ph neutral I am not convinced. A chemical reaction is required so how would it know the difference between tar spots and nano coat/wax and which to remove?
Best solution is to protect the car and maintain it, then nothing will stick anyway, if it does a clay bar will sort it.

Traffic film remover is more likely be alkaline not acidic, the best they can be is caustic free, highly unlikely for even the gentle, caustic free ones to be ph neutral....however most shampoos would be.
Anything diamond cut or polished needs to be treated with a very gentle cleaner
OP, hope you get your mini problems sorted

I can tell you what the squeaking seat is. I have the same problem.
It's the right hand bolster against the plastic edge trim. Common problem, nothing they can do about it. They just spray them with silicone to keep it quiet. I've wedged a microfibre in mine and that works.
Do you have the creaking steering? if not have a listen for it. go from lock to lock while stationary and listen for a noise right behind the steering wheel. It's the plastic airbag snap ring grating against the out plastic piece. Mine locked up while 700 miles away from home on the isle of skye. Had to wrench it free but got it changed when home.
The seat I'm just living with, but I am a bit disappointed with it I have to admit. Luckily I only lease mine, not own it.

My passenger seat squeaks ridiculously. Slightly better when someone is actually sitting on it. Grabbing and pulling the base bolster/support nearest to the passenger door seems to stop the squeaking. I keep meaning to try and squirt some WD40 up there as would feel like a muppet going for to complain about a 'squeak'.
Are your headlights condensating all the time? Or do you only notice this after giving it a wash? I only ask as its perfectly normal to get condensation when you're firing a Karcher at any modern headlight unit. They have breathing holes. If its condensating up any other time, then yes thats not right.
Otherwise all good. No electrical issues... yet!
