Diesel or Petrol
Discussion
About to buy a Clubman for Mrs Cheib...undecided whether to go for a diesel or a petrol...will be either the Cooper S or the Diesel SD.
Mrs Cheib does probably 10,000 miles a year which probably means diesel but also interested in how they drive. Drove a petrol today....quite liked it but didn't get a chance to drive a diesel.
I did drive a diesel Countryman which I was very unimpressed with...awful ride and Clubman felt much superior in every way.

Petrol, 10k a year isn't enough to warrant a diesel.
This totally, I also had a Cooper d as a loan car once and because the car is relatively small the noise of the diesel engine was just amplified so it sounded to me even worse than usual, so its got to be petrol all the way for sure. Placed an order for a One D yesterday with Sytner Birmingham and they gave me nearly 2k off (£1975). Granted £250 was because I took the GAP insurance and I was about to walk out. This was after the salesman's 3rd "visit" to the business manager
They said it was weekend only but I'm pretty the salesman was blagging me to get the sale.
I would guess the discount would have been larger had I gone for the Cooper D or above.

I was thinking £2k should be achievable...especially given the price once the options boxes have been ticked! They said it was weekend only but I'm pretty the salesman was blagging me to get the sale.

Go for a Petrol with miles that low....you need to be doing over 15k a year to make a diesel start to pay for it's self. They cost more to buy....normally diesel is more expensive to buy ( I know it is cheaper at the moment....but that is bound to change once oil starts going up again.
I have a 2012 Mini 1 diesel and am doing between 30-40k a year in it.....I am glad it's diesel as getting some 60+ MPG where as a petrol would get about half that....and maybe up to 40 MPG. On our first BMW Mini we were lucky to get 25-30 MPG in a cooper petrol....things may be better now?
I don't know about the petrol cars but an 8 gallon tank is really far too small, so am filling up some 2-3 times a week which is a pain.
Check it's got a spare wheel....gunk is crap if you get a blow out on a Friday of a bank holiday weekend.....Like i did.....couldn't get a new tyre for 4 days!

I'm averaging 34-35 mpg in a cooper s all4 countryman, so 40-odd should be obtainable in a hatch.I have a 2012 Mini 1 diesel and am doing between 30-40k a year in it.....I am glad it's diesel as getting some 60+ MPG where as a petrol would get about half that....and maybe up to 40 MPG. Not sure there's any space any where in the car, especially a normal hatch, for a spare wheel!
