All,

It's a few years since I owned my first BMW Mini Cooper S Works and what a hoot that used to be!

A few years on and I'm looking at returning to the brand with an R56 Cooper D Auto (13 plate) for my wife. I have just got my head around the fact that the Auto has a 2.0L engine (not a 1.6 as I first thought); apparently this is the same 2.0L engine as that fitted to the Cooper SD (Auto and Manual), albeit de-tuned.

There appears to be very little information out there about remapping a standard 2.0d Auto.

Has any one any experience of tuning this engine or any recommendations regarding who to potentially use?

Many thanks,

Jason.

Anyone who has a good reputation on the SD should be able to turn their attention to the Cooper D engine too smile

It was an anomaly that if you ordered a manual you got the 1600cc BMW diesel engine, but the auto got a detuned 2-litre.

2.0D Cooper auto is indeed detuned even further than the 2.0 Cooper SD is, but have a chat with these guys, who have many years of proven experience in that sort of thing, with these kind of benefits to the less detuned SD:
http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=23&fue...
http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/MiniCooperSD143...
HTH.

That's a good call. I had Superchips work on an original Smart car years ago and was very pleased with their work. I have contacted them since and they'd be interested to work on it. From what they can determine it does indeed appear to be a de-tuned version of the lump fitted to the SD so offers good potential for improvement.
