Sunroof - Maintenance?

Another question regarding my new MCS (2007 model if that makes any difference?).

It has the panoramic sunroof which has been the subject of various discussions about reliability. Does anyone do preventative maintenance on these or have any suggestions of what would help keeping it running smoothly and avoiding a big bill?

I've read a comment elsewhere that 'a good greasing' helps but more detail would have helped.

Don't think about opening it in warm weather, bizarrely as it sounds, as you'd think this was the optimum time to use a sunroof. Unfortunately the pan roof warps and that's why it then won't shut, I've opened mine twice in over 2 years ownership because I don't fancy the £800 replacement costs, last service BMW lubed the guides, ans there is a technical service bulletin on the internet listing the grease points? Just be aware of the issues before using.

Can you use the tilt function?

Tilting is still opening it, as dirty harry said "do you feel lucky "?


Old film which may go straight over your head, to be honest its a lottery if you have a problem or not, if it does jam there is a manual winder in the tool kit which SHOULD get it closed again, BMW of course again deny any issues with it (along with every thing else that fails)

To be honest I like mine because it makes the car seem roomier inside and that's it, aircon if its really warm, window open if its not.
