Help with phonebook

Just bought myself a 2010 Cooper S with the Bluetooth voice commands, however I have encountered a problem. I have paired my phone to the car and also transferred my contacts list but when I try to make a call using the voice command it just says phonebook empty. I know my contacts have transferred because I can see them listed in the display panel and can make calls using the buttons but would really like to have the voice command function working. Am i doing something wrong or is there more I need to do before the voice commands will work?
