new engine for F56 cooper S

This is a bit of a warning to other owners. My wifes CooperS from mid 2014 with 18k miles on it started to have an intermittant baulky gear change - it was never a really problem just an annoyance for me (she didnt notice it). Then just before Christmas she couldnt select any gears, I fiddled around with the clutch pedal and gear changing returned so i assumed it was some sort of hydraulic issue. Off it went to be checked out and it seems that the crankshaft has excessive float in it (from day one apparently) and the engine is buggered, a new one is being fitted now under warranty. So if you notice similar symptoms get it checked out before the warranty expires.

Tis a known issue unfortunately, BMW mini seem to find it hard to build a reliable powerplant (I won't say design as the hugely embarrassing n14 in the r56 was a combined psa effort)
