Evening all,

My Brother in law has recently changed the pads and disc's all round on my OH's 2010 Cooper S, she's done around 600-700 miles on them and they just don't feel as good as they should be. I've looked at the discs and you can tell the pads are touching the discs on all 4 corners. When she sets out on a journey they are quite rubbish to start with but get better later on in the journey, however they never reach a point where they are as good as they should be.
When driving there's probably 1 - 2 inch's of movement on the pedal before the car starts to brake.

Any advice?? I expect the main advice is probably bleed them, however I don't have the equipment to do this, is there an easy way? Or is it a trip to an indy?

Cheers folks.

I would think they are a simple car to work on and therefore I would suggest you bleed them in the normal way. Unless anybody else has any other ideas?

Doubt they need bleeding. After all how would air have got into the system?

What make are the pads?

Still bedding in? Did he choose track pads? Did he use wind back tools or bleed the nipple? All will affect the outcome

Sorry guys, been at work all day, just waiting on the receipt from BIL, will let you know the make.

How long would pads and disc's take to bed in?

When I had the front pads and discs changed on the Clubman last month I thought Sheeeeet!" on the first few times I applied the brakes. About 500 miles later I would say they are back to normal.

Cooked the brakes on my 2007 cooper s on track, put in new pads and discs and bleed them but had similar problems to what you discribe. Took to mini specialist who did a special type of bleed with engine runing as apparently had air in the DSC unit which cant bleed in the normal way.
