"Stealth" upgrade advise...
Discussion
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some sensible advice. My wife owns a 2003 Cooper which is very nice but I feel it could use a little more poke. I have sneaked a Powerful UK exhaust in as a replacement for the failed original but am looking to gently massage the overall performance without making it too obvious!
I intend to get the upgrades in during servicing etc so any ideas would be appreciated, please don't say "get an S" because she'll notice!
Would an induction kit be the next best thing or a remap?
Ps...apologies about the incorrect topic spelling, lack of attention to detail..

£300 for 15hp from a remap, air filter and upgraded spark plugs.
Are you sure you can't just buy an S in the same colour and transfer your existing number plate

Panel filter, I wouldn't use a loud exhaust particularly, remap possibly but most won't give much, but I would fit a cam. I did this on a One! It was funny, and very subtle, only clue being the car no longer ran out of puff at 4k ish, but went strongly to 5.5 and beyond with simply a 100rpm idle increase via Autologic. This was to address low rpm hunting which could make it stall when manoeuvring, however on initial very cold start you notice it flare momentarily higher, she probably wouldn't notice though. I only mapped it because the One doesn't get full throttle.
If I did it again, i'd fit the same two items (a/f & cam) then get 1320 to map it, under the premise 'just getting them to do an engine health check dear' haha, then drive back at a different pace leaving all sorts behind at will.
Brakes are good anyway, same as the S, so you need nothing, and if you fit a standard exhaust, the change is invisible totally.
Just my2p
