As per title. Picking up an R53 cooper S tomorrow. It has non standard wheels on it which I dont like. Looking to put it back to standard with some of the 16" R84 wheels but i've spent a few hours googling and trawling Ebay and cant seem to find any? Its a bit odd as I assumed that loads of people would be putting 17's on and binning off the old 16's. Looks as though they may have become the latest 'trend' to put on Honda's and VW's.... which I guess means they all get snapped up by the 'scene' boys.

I'd have a look on some of the MINI websites such as totalmini.com and minitorque.com

£700+ tyres is a little more than I was looking to spend! I don't hate the current ones THAT much...

Is there a generally regarded forum that is the best? I'm coming out of my M3 where the 'go to' forum is M3cutters

I think those two and mini2.com are the most active. I was looking earlier in the year for an R53 Cooper S so was lurking on those sites. There are also specialist mini breakers who maybe worth a look as well.

Not many R53s were sold with the 16s over here, nearly every Cooper S was spec'd with the Chili Pack which gave you the 17 inch S Spokes, and later the option of Web Spokes and Bullets.

The R84s (also known as X-Lites) were only ever available on the Cooper S, so they're quite hard to find (I've been halfheartedly looking for some on my R53 too, and before that on my R50).

If you want a 16 inch wheel, you could go for the R83 5 star Daytona wheel which was also available on the One/One D/Cooper, probably my favourite 16 inch design and super popular because they were available on all 1st Gens from the factory;

I was looking at the 16" ones a few months back and never found any. As Ollie said most people got the Chilli pack so got the 17" alloys as part of the upgrade.

Of the ones I originally said? The R84's? For sale? Good condition?

You can't get rid of the OEM 17" S spokes anymore - and at 11½kg each, that's no surprise. The R53 works best on lightweight 16s and non run flat tyres. But 16s do come for sale fairly often on minitroque and totalmini.

managed to bag a set in the end. Via ebay for £300 with decent tyres - albeit run flats....
