2005 Cooper so hopefully the later, "better" Getrag gearbox?

Bought the car about 9 Months, more recently gearchange feels to be getting worse, out of fifth to fourth have to push gearlever back across the gate, sure it used to just spring back and getting back over for first/second takes some effort!

A quick look in my trusty Haynes Manual and I'm thinking partially seized selector cables?

Can they be successfully lubed, free'd off or is new the only proper fix?

The gear selector mech on top of the box is prone to seizing, ive seen a repair kit on ebay for sale or you could try and free it off with some penetrating oil?

It's a common symptom, remove the airbox and lube it all, you can spray it from underneath but it won't likely resolve it
