Whistling wind sound
Discussion
Hi
Am getting an annoying whistling sound when I go over 60mph, have tried taping up all the window seals and mirrors to see if I could find where the winds getting in but it's still whistling.
Anyone have any ideas what could be making the noise/ where the wind could be coming in?
Could it be the Airbox?
I've got an R53 cooper S if it makes a difference.
Thanks, Tim

Check if its the window regulator. Mine has just gone on the passenger side which means that it cannot tell when the top of the trim is when the door is closed. this means that often the window drops slightly causing the whistling noise.
You might be able to reset it by toggling the window switch, but if not you need a new regulator and through BMW its a couple of hundred. I have just bought one on Ebay for £50 and going to replace it myself.

Check the A-Pillar trims, common for coming loose and flying off on the motorway.
Take them off, make sure the gasket is intact and reseal back on.
That's what my money is on.
That's what I think it is, there's a slight gap on the passenger side at the top that could be letting the air in, will have a look at the weekend see what it's like underneath.Take them off, make sure the gasket is intact and reseal back on.

Windows seem fine, have reset them and still the same and no visible gaps so think it is the A Pillar.
It could be the air box if you have a cold air kit,
If there was a gap at the window, normalising it will only work if the gap is all the way along, the windows can be set a little, and if a regulator, the only long term reliable ones are OE in my experience.
I would get some duct tape, and seal one edge at a time, ie trim to screen, then to door glass, base of mirror etc.
Quite a few fit air kit's which seal against the bonnet and can cause noises hence a mention

Car has the original JCW Airbox still, not an induction kit.If there was a gap at the window, normalising it will only work if the gap is all the way along, the windows can be set a little, and if a regulator, the only long term reliable ones are OE in my experience.

Have changed one of the A pillar trims and also fitted the foam gaskets that go behind on both sides and sound still getting in so think it must be either the windscreen seal or the Sunroof seal.
Will have to take it to BMW to see what they say as the whistlings doing my head in

Bit of a resurrection, but do you have spotlights on the front?
My old one used to whistle at those speeds and I always put it down to those.
I do, car is still making the whistling sound, might try taking them off if that's whats making the noise, is quiet a loud whistle so think its more like the window the noise is coming through but will try anything. My old one used to whistle at those speeds and I always put it down to those.
Thanks for the suggestion
