Anyone else having issues with excessive wear on disks?

We've had a 12 plate Mini One D from new. Approx 20k miles per year but mostly motorway and split 50/50 with wife. Front disks needed replacing at 28k miles (but not pads or tyres!!); rear disks changed at 47k and now told that front disks need changing again at 52k. My driving is brisk but it's still a diesel and not a JCW!

Starting to feel a bit ripped-off - we've bought TLC service package and I'm thinking the garage is looking to boost income.

If you're changing them based on what the on-board computer says then this could be too early.

4 times our R56 Cooper S said that it needed them changing, so I got them measured. 3 times resulted in no change of pads, just a reset of the computer.

Finally the rear pads got changed at 40,000. 45,000 miles on the fronts are still going, but I suspect not for much longer.

Clearly it will depend on use, but I would have thought the Cooper S would be harder on brakes than yours (we got 60,000 out of our R56 Cooper's)

The dealers also try it on a bit, often suggesting new discs prematurely when just in for an oil service. Discs last through two sets of brake pads with me, usually between 20-30,000 from the front discs, and 30-40,000 from the rears, with brisk driving on a Cooper SD. The discs are a bit soft, but they work well. I always verify the remaining thickness of the discs to be sure they really do need replacing.

All they've probably done, is measured the discs routinely, and despite there being life left in the pads, they've told you the discs need renewal. That also means new pads, in which case they're right to do so, you'd want to know right? Just don't do them until you need the pads perhaps. There is a minimum service limit on discs, and it isn't much less than new, it's a waste of remaining pad really, but safety says consider it, as the wear may be more on one side of the disc meaning a thin section close to the vents. Discs do break. If it was mine I'd say thanks but I'll wait. Don't let them tell you that you 'have' to do them, sometimes they do that, or just fit them and tell you after that you had to have them. Ask about the value line if not offered already. Or second opinion.
