The MINI GP market
Discussion
Hi there, I've been looking at buying something 'fun' for occasional use for the last month or so, having initially narrowed the search to a Clio V6, Elise or MINI GP, I've now pretty much decided to go down the GP (first edition) route - there are few low (ish) mileage cars currently on the market, is there anything in particular to look out for/have checked on these cars?
I'm after a really nice example (under 30k) - how is the market for these cars? Are they likely to rise in price, or are they not particularly sort after?

The price seems to be bumping along at 10-12K for a couple of years. The release of the R56 variant brought it into the public eye and quite a few imports (from Japan?) were rumoured to be about so check provenance.
There's always a few about but expect to travel. I think it will have low depreciation (like a series 1 Elise, Morgan, etc.) but not any great spike like air cooled Porsches. At the end of the day it is just a hot hatch with no race history to fall back on, so only zero-mile cars will auction at silly prices (in about 25 years).

I have not really been following prices too keenly but looking at PH's offerings today I do not think prices have moved from where they were two years ago. I bought mine then. So at a guess I cannot see massive depreciation although equally it does not really look like an appreciating asset.
The bottom line is enjoy the car and hopefully you will not lose too much on selling.
Expect to have to refurbish the GP wheels - power steering seems to be an issue on older Minis although not sure about the GP.
Good luck.

Bit late to the party but just thought it was funny that I've had a Clio V6, then a GP, then a Exige and now back in a GP, best car I've had.
I just paid 9k for a 56k standard one and its pretty spotless
I've had a Clio V6, and a few exiges and Elise's too (still own an S1 exige) - the great thing about the Mini is that it's is 100% usable... I just paid 9k for a 56k standard one and its pretty spotless
I've just agreed a deal on a 22k mile GP 1 - hopefully will be picking it up next week, seriously looking forward to it!

Not buying AdamGP's are you?
I will be interested to hear if yours has the jack pads underneath the little flaps covering the jacking points as well as the jacking adapter as mine came without either. I should probably count myself lucky that all the flaps were in place though.

Mine was bought this Saturday by a dealer I will be interested to hear if yours has the jack pads underneath the little flaps covering the jacking points as well as the jacking adapter as mine came without either. I should probably count myself lucky that all the flaps were in place though.

what number was yours Adam and was it a good one? Just starting to look at them, and I'd prefer to buy privately to get a feel for how its been cared for ideally
Mine was 1819, the dealer had it up for £11995, I only paid £10995 as a cherished Mini from Cotswold Hereford two years ago, so I think that's a good sign for values.I would like to think mine was a good example mechanically with a new timing chain and rocker arms all fitted by Mini in my ownership, the dealer that sold it also had to front end resprayed to eliminate the stone chips, so I'd say its now a pretty mint example.
Still massively regret selling it!
