R53 Cooper S Audio
Discussion
Busy searching for an R53 Cooper S to replace my Golf GTI, needs to have quite a few options, one I think I would like the most is the Harman/Kardon sound system, I like my music, so that would be a bonus. Problem is, I've found the near-perfect car, has all the options I want, except for the HK. Is there much of a difference between the HK and the boggo spec? Also, why do some cars have black speaker grilles and some have silver? Is that a clue as to some sort of mid range system or simply just an interior colour combo thing?
Not sure about the colour if the speaker grilles but re the HK setup ut is an improvement but its not night and day. It's certainly not worth rejecting the right car to get.
If audio is important you'd have to use an aftermarket setup anyway IMO. Audio, HK included, is not a strong point in Minis.

Great stuff, thanks for the input. I've experienced the HK setup in my mates E46 BMW and also the Logic 7 in an L322 Range Rover, both have ben very good. As it happends, I've found a car that's £200 cheaper, has 30k less and has HK, going to view it on Saturday. Seems like the perfect one apart from it doesn't have the climate control, but has the panoramic roof. I figured I could live without the air con with it having the panoramic roof, but probably couldn't live without thedecent audio package.
Funny someone should mention the Mk5 Golf, my Golf really irritates me with it's setup, the rear speakers are more mid range and bass, the fronts are mid to high end, but when the fader is centralised, the rears are over powering. Fade it to the front a tad and the bass just about disappears. Annoying thing is, my parents have a 5dr Mk5 Golf and that's pretty decent. Must be something to do with the 3dr cars.

Well I bought the car with the HK setup and I'm hugely impressed with the clarity and quality for such a small system. Now am I right in thinking, because it's a '53' plate, I can get an aux input lead from BMW and just plug it into the back of the head unit? They were £35 iirc a few years ago, I bought one for my L322 Range Rover from BMW as it plugged into the radio module in the boot and 'AUX' appeared on the nav screen/radio. I've read that early cars up to around 2002 on the boost cd player didn't have the input to plug the 3.5mm socket in. I'm hoping with mine being a late 2003 would have the availability. Does anyone know?
My 05 has an iPod cable in the glove box so it is certainly do-able but it was fitted by a previous owner.
I have only used the radio so far and am just reloading my iPod with a fresh set of music - it's only a 2 gig but is enough for me.
I must try the iPod and a cd this week to see what the HK is really like.
The girl that owned it before me had set the base on max and left a drum and base cd in it - frightened the life out of me when I put it on cd!!!!
