Hello chaps,

Due to an unfortunate problem with my R56 Cooper S, the main dealer has suggested a full engine replacement. The engine currently has 52k miles on it, but is heavily coked and has internal damage from a shattered spark plug.

The dealer has quoted 7.3k for a full engine replacement!

Can anyone recommend a decent Mini specialist that would be able to replace with a new / refurbished engine for a cheaper cost than this? Preferably who is able to transport from N Yorks to carry out the works.

Any help appreciated

Cheers!

Cheers 0llie, will take a look at those guys. Any other suggestions out there? (Preferably with transport to/from N Yorks also) ?

The brother in law of a mate of mine has a BMW mini breakers / garage / spares place in Bury. I don't know much about what he has, but my mate said he has lots of minis.

He may be able to supply / fit a new engine. The place is called Mintech.

(Again I must say that I cannot vouch for what service he offers as I have never dealt with him, but he is in the North of England and looks to have a car transporter on his web site).

The coking issue can be resolved fairly straight forward with a walnut blasting. There is a thread somewhere that lists all the BMW MINI garages that offer this service. UHowever the main issue of course is the spark plug issue. How did that happen? Perhaps it was done during a service by a MINI garage?

Hope you get it sorted anyway, i know if i was faced with a £7.3k bill for a new engine, i'd be doing everything i could to get the manufacturer to stump up some of the cost.

That's a stupid price for an engine - you can buy, including VAT, a brand new 480bhp LS3 V8 for £1000 less than that, a 1.6 4 pot!

Totally agree Chris - had quotes from independents at a third of that price!

Hi,
Same thing happened to my wife's mini (jcw) gave to a friend of mine down near Andover who repaired the engine "plus" a few other issues that mini/BMW could not fix (maybe the reason for the new engine?) really worth having a chat with him if you've not got it sorted...Nigel 07795843544
Hope you get it sorted.
