What should I pay for a used Cooper S engine...........?

After months of problems with the car burnt out vales etc in and out of the garage in now appears there's an under lining problem with wear in the bores.! 07 car with 57000 miles and the dealer wants £1500 just to strip the head to investigate.! So its looking serious and I have already spent a fortune on it and I'm just thinking do I bite the bullet and just buy a second hand engine a pay for it to be fitted.? Never done this before and don't really know what I am expected to pay..?

Mate of mine just went through exactly the same thing, turned out to be a cracked piston. BMW offered a chunk of goodwill which brought it down to <1k

How old was his car and what mileage.? I thought mine would be too old for any goodwill.?

Not sure, it was less than a year out of warranty and this happened a few months ago. Not sure what the warranty is on them. If I had to make a wild guess I'd say 2009 or 2010 MY. Mileage wise, your guess is as good as mine.

It's worth asking BMW UK if the car's got history with them though.
