airbag warning light problem
Discussion
I assume that once the light is on, you need an OBD reader to turn it off ?
51 reg cooper.
The passenger seat has been 'out' so I suspect that the cable has been kinked or something, and when pushing it forward to get people out of the back it's got damaged.
My initial reaction to the light is
a) NOT panic
b) Buy a reader - this look okay ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxiscan-Diagnostic-Scanne...
c) Reset fault codes
d) if still comes on, investigate further.
Anyone got any other suggestions ?

I await an answer with interest.
The car I bought yesterday was ok before the seller had it valeted but now the light is on.
The connectors under the seat look ok though..
EDIT
I think the battery had been out for charging as well - it had certainly been totally flat.

The problem is probably the seatbelt tensioner loom. A repair loom is available from BMW. You need to read the airbag fault memory to find the cause, the code reader you linked too only does basic engine codes.
Anyone like to suggest a reader which will be able to ? At a reasonable price ? Minicraft near Haywards Heath have found my problem.
The connector within the live battery connector has corroded The opposite end to the cable.
They have suggested putting a 4k 2W metal foil resistor in the yellow plug to fool the system into thinking it is connected to the battery.
Otherwise it looks like a complete new live cable from the boot to the front of the car....unless I can get the connector part itself separately.
