Looking for a convertible.
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I don't usually post in this part of PH but I'm looking into getting a MINI cab. for the miss and there are so many out there with such huge difference in prices it's hard to know which are a bargain and which aren't.
I haven't searched too much into what to avoid but the main thing I've been told is that early MINIs are to be avoided at all cost pre 2006 I believe !
What should i look into besides the usual history and dealer stamps...
PS: We're looking for a cab, no matter the engine, petrol or diesel but we'd like leather or half leather, Xenon and Parktronic would be a plus but not a necessity and we're looking to not spend more then 8k
If anyone is selling...

It is well documented in here and other websites.
The gearbox from early Minis (Cooper and One) is fragile. The year range covers from 2000 until 2004 so will not effect convertibles. Also, it does not effect the Cooper S.
I have not read anything about early convertibles to avoid, but happy to be pointed to a source which suggests otherwise.
I would suggest the prices are being driven by mileage, specification, age and a little bit of uncertainty - so I would suggest there are bargains to be had where private sellers maybe struggling to sell.

There was a slight design change to the roof in mid 2005, I can't remember the exact manufacturing month that it was brought in but I seem to remember everything 55 plate on should be ok.
The roof wears above the rear side windows so check for marks.
Great cars, if a little wobbly. A GTT strut brace and lower brace will help out with this.
