I filled up the MINI this morning for the first time. To say it was a pain in the arse is an understatement.

The fuel nozzle kept cutting off as though the tank was full (diesel).

Is this a known issue?
If so, how do I stop it from cutting off before it's full?

My A4 sometimes does this - I have to play about with the angle of the filler in the hole and that helps. It's amazing what a difference a very small change in the angle can make.

Never had it on mine & being a Cooper S, god knows it likes to hang around petrol stations. Thinking of naming it George Best as it's so fond of a drink.

I tried a couple of different angles but was cursing like a sailor. I might try the nozzle upside down next time (i.e. next week).

I've been taking the Golf and MX-5 for granted. Never a problem with those.

Had the same problem with a Countryman SD hire car. Ended up puttig £5.50 and driving off in a huff. Quietly cursing the car.

This is the only way I can fill my 08 MCS. You get used to it and don't even think you're doing it "the wrong way".

Never had a problem with filling my Mini. But my old 156 was a PITA, had to hold the nozzle at 10 o'clock to get it to fill to the top - any other position and it just kept clicking......

Same with our A1. I just don't put the nozzle all the way in, and don't press it down fully.

It's a known 'issue' with the Cooper D.

Not sure about Countryman, but seems to affect Hatch, Clubby, Convertible etc.

Had a chat with MINI dealership this morning and they acknowledged it's an issue (careful to stress not a problem or fault) and suggested I don't fully insert the nozzle.

Will give myself more time at the pumps next time and have a play.

What do you plan to do about the fuelling issue though?

As I work at a MINI dealership I must fill about 30 a day...Just put the nozzle in about an inch and angle downwards to the ground. If you get what I mean!
My life is so exciting!

Useful info. Thanks.

Oh, and there's far too much innuendo in this thread now. hehe

I never had a problem with my Cooper D, but my wife did. Probably the angle of dangle, the cause of so many other differences between man and wife hehe

R56 Cooper, thankfully I've only ever filled it once.

As others have said it's all about the angle of the nozzle, sometimes my demo's click every few pence and other times I fill it with no problem, this is at the same station and normally the same pump

Just to add: I filled up again on Friday and used this method. Worked a treat.
