Over the last couple of weeks the clock in my 56 MCS has started randomly resetting itself. The trip computer also gets reset to 0 and occasionally the date is out by a day or so. Has anyone else experienced anything like this ?

Not in the Mini, but the Camaro would do some of those when I had a battery charge problem and it was low.
Hi Steve, I did wonder if it might be a battery problem but I don't have any problems starting it. The only other weird thing that it started doing at around about the same time was randomly opening the boot ! I hope this isn't a sign of more problems down the line.

No smile I think the lock might just be sticking open a bit, time for some WD40 perhaps. But since it started around the same time as the other problem I did wonder if it might be a problem with the electrics.

Had this on my R53 a couple of months back. The battery packed up a few days later. Check the charge on yours and prepare to buy a new one.

This has been happening for about 3 weeks now, if it is a battery problem (which seems likely) then why have I not had any problems starting the car as surely that requires quite a lot of battery power ? I can pretty much guarantee the problem if I don't use the car for a couple of days.

Mine was in all the cold weather a few months back. The car would open, start and do my journey to work but the clock and the odometer would reset themselves over night. The few days that I couldn't get my car off the drive finally killed the battery off as the alternator wasn't charging it and in the end there was no charge left for anything more than opening the central locking. You may find that if you leave it for a few days that it just won't start again. You can get battery testing kits easily/cheaply enough. Might save you the worry.

Our R53 Cooper did this and a changing the battery cured it.

I have this on my R56 Cooper S. It has happened twice and on the boat when either coming or going to France. The car will always start but the things reset themselves.

The vehicle has been taken to the shop for inspection and they can not find anything. They did suggest that I should disable sensors of the alarm while in transit may it be by boat or train.

Cheers

Well I took it to Halfords fully expecting to buy a new battery, they tested the old one and it said the battery was good with a charge of 78% so it didn't need to be replaced ! Back to the drawing board frown

I had a look at the boot lock mechanism to try and find out why it keeps unlocking. It appears to be controlled by some sort of magnetic switch (servo ?) so I could see that if the battery isn't providing enough power it might cause it to unlock itself. I might try taking it to another tyre/battery place and see what their meter says - maybe the Halfords one was faulty, the halfords 'mechanic' did have problems getting it connected.

Seems like I'm not the only one to have had this problem. Although his was an R53.

Well the problem has come back again :-( It was fine for the last 4 months, it just stopped happening. Then a couple of weeks ago it started again, the difference this time is that the boot really doesn't like staying closed anymore so I think (hope) this may be the root cause of the problem. I've found a thread on the mini2 forum that suggests this is a known problem and is caused by corrosion of the contacts in the boot lock, so I at least have a starting point.

Mine was doing it, luckily for me, the positive terminal was just loose. Hopefully yours is as easy a fix
