i had a 2001 conti r mulliner with the fold out alpine system.whilst it did indeed work,it is very antiquated and not user friendley because the whole system incorporates the radio etc. better off to leave standard radio etc and buy a tom tom. harry.
I updated the satnav unit as no upto date maps were available. This cost about £600 and whilst the screen doesn't work as a touch screen it all works fine with the remote control unit. The Alpine unit is indeed complex. The manual is over 100 a4 pages but the system gives a huge array of set up options and once set requires very few andjustments.I quite enjoyed setting it up although my wife thought I had moved into the garage!
If it were me I would persevere with the the Alpine version. Whilst the Tom Tom is a great piece of kit who really wants wires trailing over that wallnut dash.
