Rolls-Royce Ghost and Benley Mulsanne Top Gear tonight...
Discussion
I'm guessing that the trip to Albania was filmed some time ago, the first cars weren't delivered for demo's and customers until November time. So I would think that Crewe weren't happy with the car they planned to lend so pulled out at the last minute, you would think that it could have been handled better though.

Surely, if that was the case, Clarkson and co wouldn't' have been quite so harsh.
I think, they asked Bentley to do a test on track and Bentley agreed. When they then told them it was a group test in Albania including a Ghost, they changed their mind. I have no basis for this assumption, but this would explain why TG did what they did.
As a side, I completely agree with their final comment. If I was at the lights in a Ghost and a Phantom pulled up next to me, I would feel like I'd bought the wrong car.
I have driven the Ghost and all of the Phantom variants (apart from for the EWB, which I have been in the back of).
Whilst in its own right, it is an excellent car, IMHO it is nowhere near as special as any of the Phantom family

Isn't the Ghost supposed to be the car to "drive" rather than the Phantom which is to be "driven" in? Or would you say the Phantom/s are still very much drivers cars just the same? I have driven the Ghost and all of the Phantom variants (apart from for the EWB, which I have been in the back of).

The Ghost is certainly a more engaging drive but for my money a Phantom Coupe/Drop head with the sports package offers a better ride position, more sense of occasion and a more authentic Rolls Royce experience.
Having driven the Ghost and Phantom I have to agree with that. The Ghost is a stunningly good car, but the Phantom raises the bar to another level and feels more like a Royce should. The conventional steel monocoque of the Ghost certainly shows itself when hustled down a twisty B-road, compared to the rigid bonded aluminium structure of the Phantom on the same route.Gassing Station | Bentley & Rolls Royce | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
