Hi all

I have only just joined up to Piston Heads and having an interest in Classic cars I have bought a beautifull blue RR Silver Shadow from 1969.
Last Sunday, intent on showing off my new aquisition and doing a little posing round Stratford-upon-Avon we decided on a drive-out. We took my mother-in-law all wrapped up in pillows etc as she, sadly, is not in a good way and is dying of pancreatic cancer.
The trip started really well but then imagine my alarm when the Rolls stalled in the middle of the town. I got it started but then it proceeded to stall at every junction when I tried to accelerate.
Stress levels went through the roof and I was in great danger of loosing my partner as well as mother-in-law!
Got home eventually although we were on the point calling at least- a taxi.
The car has two SU carbs. Can any of you experts tell me what I need to do. I suspect it is over fueling. The climax being an almighty back-fire on the way past my local! Quiet Sunday afternoon drink?

Yours in desperation - Woottonpark

it sounds like the auto choke has come on and stuck. it's sprung-loaded "on" and gets backed off when warm

look for a throttle lever which you can move by flicking it one the throttle is open - it's easier to find than it is to describe.

Thanks 2woody. Will check out the auto-choke to see if it is stuck as you suggest. Not the weather for driving a classic lady at present!
