Ok here's a question or two for you chaps who own a GT/GTC/GTS that are point blank and blunt, but I make no apologises as I need clear honest answers, warts n'all.
Why did you opt for a Bentley Continental GT, why not an Aston DB9, or even a Maserati Grandsport/Grand tourismo, even a new Jaguar XKR. What was it that swayed your decision to buy one above all else.
What's so good about them, what do you feel are the best attributes.
Whats the real bad points , if any.
What kind of reactions do you get driving these monsters, good , bad or indifferent and how do YOU feel driving it.
What are they like to live with, problematic or reliable, heavy on sevicing.
Should I go through a main dealer for peace of mind and the warranty.
Please be as honest as possible as I'm sure it will help me with my own dilemma. I am looking to buy a quality GT but I am really struggling to decide, I have around 45-50k to spend, maybe a little more and am looking at the ones I listed earlier, however just out of curiosity I took out a GT for a test drive last weekend and was sooooo suprised by it , the comfort the speed , pretty much everything was spectacular and for a man of my size,6'6" and 21st it was very roomy, I do fit in all of the others quite well also once the seats are sorted. I will be asking the chaps in the opposing forums the same question.

Iv only had mine a couple of weeks, price swayed me i got a bargain.

Best car iv owned, no bad attitudes from people when driving, excellent feel good factor.

I found out about Bentley no longer doing a warranty for cars from outside the dealer network after i bought it, while it was in for the service i gave it straight away. It wouldnt have stopped me buying though. How important the warranty is is for you to decide, pay more from a main dealer for peace of mind or try to grab a private bargain.

Mine is a 2007 car, iv not had any problems yet, but i havent had it long.

Im 6'4 and like you find it roomy enough. Go for it my man, i think they are the top of the luxo barge tree, sadly iv just got a 6 week ban so mine is a bit redundant at the moment smile

Thanks for that reply Markymark69, I did watch the thread where you mentioned that you were looking for one and I am so glad that you got what you wanted and are pleased with your purchase, and that you took the time to have shared your thoughts with me, I only wish that a few others had. I am very dissapointed with the response to my question on this forum, I'm not looking for people to justify their choice of car, just their opinions on what sold them.I have had a lot more from the other forums, amusing and informative. Deciding on a car is a difficult thing especially when you're splahing out what I consider to be a lot of money on a luxury/sports car,and help from all quarters is always gratefully accepted to help avoid the pitfalls and mistakes made by others ,who with hindsight should've asked more questions or done more research with those who know their cars best...the owners. I'm not trying to skimp, I just want to make sure that I'm getting the best car for my money and have more than enough left in the pot for any servicing or eventualities that should rear up unexpectantly, and general running costs, I don't buy cars to have them sat looking pretty, I like to get them out at every chance any excuse to drive them and enjoy them .I would also like to dispell the opinion of others that a Bentley GT is just an overpriced and overblown VW Pheaton owned by drug dealers, porky fat cat buisnessmen , wannabe pretentious pr**ks and footballers, especially when it's a car I like a lot.

You tend to find the people that go round labeling cars like oh yea those Bentleys, footballers cars.

Or Boxsters, poor mans Porsche, they tend to drive Vauxhall Astras, its all bks, sod what they think, if you like them go for it.

Dont forget what i said about the Bentley warranty though, thats the only bit of research i wished i did, but thinking about it i would have got one anyway.

unfortunately you will find that this particular forum is a bit slow news-wise. Maybe not enough footballers reading pistonheads hehe

i've only had my GT a few months and bought from dealer. They're not cheap from dealer but still have warranty which i've used once so far to get the high brake light repaired. Not sure about servicing as i haven't had to take it in yet but the dealer i use is very helpful and friendly. Don't get any bad reactions to the car at all and a lot of tourists tend to treat it like a supercar and take lots of pictures which can sometimes be a bit annoying!

i had a Maser Granturismo previous to this and really liked it but the electrics were starting to play up and the F1 gearbox was starting to look a bit fragile so i decided to part ways before anything more drastic happened. Space wise the maser was more comfortable in the back mainly due to the shape of the slope in the back as i find my head touching the roof in the Bentley which didn't happen in the Maser. However, the Bentley is extremely comfortable and is a very good GT car but can sometimes feel it's weight even under normal acceleration. Maybe you can consider getting a chip from DMS to bring the torque and power up a bit.

Hope this helps and sorry for slow reply as i don't read this forum too often as nobody posts here!!!

Hi Cho, nice garage of cars. Would the DMS you are talking about be the same Rick from Derby that services the Astons?

No, DMS are well known for chipping all sorts of stuff - South coast IIRC

haven't spoken to DMS yet but not as interested in the increase in power as a possible change to the gearchange software. I had spoken to them previously about chipping a Merc C63 and they said they could make changes to the gearbox software as well to make it more responsive (basically sticking the black series software on) so i was hoping they could do something similar with the Bentley. Will update ASAP!

BTW thanks for the comment Tony. Felt i needed something a bit more comfortable now in my old age tongue out

Hi, I'm new to Pistonheads, but have just bought a Bentley Conti 2007 (2 weeks ago).
I'm in the motor trade and am in the fortunate position to get to drive various marques.
In my opinion, the GT is the only car you will ever need!
I've had half a dozen 911s, an Aston Vantage and a Merc CLS. The Bentley is the only car that still
gives me that wow factor for the way it looks, performs and drives.
Its like slipping into a favorite pair of shoes before settling in an armchair!
As to owning costs, watch this space!!
