Gents,
a friend of a friend has a nice Seraph that he's selling and, for an easy deal, he might let me have it (relatively!) cheap compared to the dealer prices of c. £55k.
What sort of maintenance costs would I be looking at on such a beast? It has FSH and about 20k miles on it. I'm not bothered about fuel (do <5k miles a year) but suspect the servicing would cripple my discretionary spending?! Any info much appreciated.

Click on the above link. Nigel is a great mechanic and his prices are representative of the independants. He is very trustworthy.

Thanks mate - appreciate the link - it's hard to get much info on these compared to the more "normal" stuff I'd usually be looking at.
Those prices seem surprisingly reasonable, I might give them a call to see what I should look out for.
Thanks again.

Don't forget that is plus parts and VAT.

If you are going to do short services, and only do the bare minimum, such as brake pads when it needs them and similar things that are crucial, e.g. at MOT time, but ignore other ailments, and skip the bigger service schedules, then maybe around £1000 - £1500 a year.

If you are going to properly do what is required as & when, without skimping, reckon on two to three times that.

EG, just had new discs & pads on mine, and some other fettling, £1200. I get a hit like that typically once or twice a year. But every now and then you get a £4K hit, on top of a £1200 hit, on top of a £1700 hit, all in the same year biggrin

But not everyone is as anal as me about having the car totally utterly perfect.

Nigel is, indeed, the man. He looks after both my cars and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Agree with the servicing figures as suggested by Balmoral Green. In relation to the vehicle in question it would be my advice that whoever you decide to service the vehicle that they follow the required service schedule. With a small annual mileage I suspect it would be possible to make some allowances. For example, my last service (£4K) was in November, and since then I have covered approx 300 miles. My vehicle should be serviced again this month, but I feel (perhaps mistakenly) that I can skip the May service, but present the vehicle again for service in November; subject to there being no malfunctions in the interim. Regardless of the mileage then covered my vehicle will have the required scheduled service. My advice is that if you fail to have the vehicle serviced correctly then that failure will be relected when you come to sell the vehicle. No matter how excellent a servicing garage may be they will only service the vehicle according to your instructions. If, you insist on little more than an oil service then that is all you will get.

Appreciate all the replies folks.
The deal is still in the offing; it's quite an "illiquid" market so hard to know what a "good" price is, especially when trying to account for the likely maintenance costs.
If I take the leap then I'll update this post with the required pictorials!

Again, thank you all very much indeed.

Is the Seraph the one which has a lot in common with the E38 750? same engine and also some genetic crossover on floorpans/"chassis"?

BMW derived drivetrain, but floorpan/chassis is old school Crewe RR/Bentley.
