Hi,new to this forum, which is excellent! I was wondering who has bought anything like the 6k red Bentley in the buyers guide in Classic and Sports Car this month and put some mega mileage on it? Have some models gotto the stage where you put 50,000 miles on it, doing the minimum to keep it running then put it into the skip? Maybe a 2-3 year cycle where you just get another one at 6k? I know it goes against general wisdom!

Hi, welcome to Pistonheads.

They tend to be more reliable if run like that. They don't like infrequent use.

It's not a bad idea, buying a cheapie, with the intention of neglecting it or doing the bare minimum. A huge number of Silver Shadows have gone through decades of successive owners doing just that. They are very hard to kill, I doubt you would end up skipping it, unless it's body rot.

Your user name suggests you are in Derby? So am I.

There are frequent RR/Bentley events locally, If you fancy a pint and a chat, let me know.

Why not spend 2K a year on it and keep it going instead of scrapping it?!

I don't know anything about the car, I will look at the advert later. But you couldn't go far wrong with Hillier Hill.

The car looks sound enough, if a little scruffy on the interior, leather & carpets etc from the pics. If it's prepped & serviced properly, with a good warranty, from Hiller Hill it's got to be a better bet than a typical £6K jobbie from a general used car pitch.

Those miles, whilst not a problem, will kill the resale though, if you wanted to bail out sooner rather than later and sell on privately or to the trade.
