As a couple of the regular’s in the RR & B section know, I’m in the process of restoring a rather rotten MPW / Corniche Coupe, the body work is coming on well and will form the basis of another restoration book.

Does anybody know if there are any available guides or articles on updating a Shadow / Corniche to use the later running gear?

Changing the gearbox over to a more modern alternative isn’t a problem as it should be similar to the 4/5 speed conversions we’ve already done with Ferrari 400’s. However I’m looking for hints and tips for things like the diff and rear axle, which may not be able to take the extra power without beefing up.

I think Rolls themselves produced a limited run of 25 cars and called it the Corniche S,which had Turbo running gear.Maybe some research into what they uprated for this car may help you.

Good idea by the way.I always wondered how Turbo R running gear would work in a Shadow II,probably need a lot more work than just an engine transplant.

It should all go in, the turbo development was done in the early seventies by Broadspeed, using a 71 Shadow. Then it all went in the cupboard for ten years.

There used to be a triple tone brown & gold T2 with a beige everflex roof and full Turbo R running gear kicking about a few years back. Last time I saw it up for sale was asking £20K.

My biggest concern on a conversion like that would be ensuring the brakes and suspension could cope with the enhanced performance.

No worse than a boggo Mulsanne turbo, they were just a Spirit with a turbo afterall. No revisions to the brakes or suspension until the Turbo R came out in 85.

Great project.

Have you used stand-alone gearbox controllers on the previous conversions?

it might just be your lucky day - I worked at Rolls Royce Motor Cars in the engine design department on these last Corniches and the Conti R.

e-mail me your contact details and we'll have a chat.

I saw this T2 advertised in C+SC about 6-7 years ago. they claimed in the ad that something like £80k was spent on the engine and suspension / brake upgrades.

Hi Stuart
I noticed an old post from you about Corniche turbos, are you still active on this platform?

Kind regards
