I know its been a while ......

I got a lovely red LWB Turbo R from Hanswells 65k miles

The after sales / method of shake down is the best I have ever experienced for any car I have owned.

On receipt I made a list of the niggles I had inc slight play in drivers seat, bulb gone in light facia, duff CD, sticking rear door lock, tempremental alarm and dead cruise control oh and auto lights on permanently.

Car was collected and every thing was dealt with without quibble or question, I have had it back a week, the drivers door lock is playing up but apart from that its faultless and Im using it as a daily driver.

Its a bit long for many car parks and our M&S car park so I have to leave it outside on the road but apart from that its fine as a daily driver.

The seat controls not being illuminated is a pain - cant find the seat heater in a hurry - I cant believe they didnt illuminate the panel

It gives me a great sense of occasion every trip and I love it I really do, my first big trip is to London next week and im really looking forward to it

I just need a new set of sheep / lamb rugs to finsih it off - anyone know of any in red ?

Glad to hear it's a success - they are wonderful cars. I have had mine for just coming up to 7 years and I still love it.

You may still be able to get sheepskin over-rugs from the dealer network. There are independent companies making them, I believe - try googling. Hanwells would probably be able to advise. Or look for a second-hand set on e-bay. Good luck!

I bought a set of rugs for my Silver Spirit from Morlands last year. Great service and fantastic quality. I'll be ordering another set for my Shadow in the New Year; the idea of a group discount is probably very realistic if there are 3 or 4 of us.

Ive emailed both makers - I only need fronts as my rears are near mint.

Im having door solenoid issues though, is it a common fault that doors dont quite shut correctly and if the door tries to lock it damages the locking mech ? this seems to be my problem, dealer is perfect in sorting it but I like to know these things

You might be impressed by the aftersales, but what does this say about the pre-delivery checking? Do you get the impression that they are fixing things only when you tell them?

Jon has made a very valid point. Glad they are sorting your issues out. But surely these issues should have been dealt with prior to your purchase within their own pre purchace inspection. Or perhaps they thought you would not notice.

there's some mats on ebay now ! (new, it says)

they're brow, but it may be possible to dye them - at least you'd have OE ones

Guys apologies, I haven't checked the thread in ages, I sold the turbo r 15 months ago it's not practical as a daily driver for me. Yes good point fixing stuff as it's found but nothing was very major, and most were sporadic. I was pleased with the dealer.
I'm hankering after a GTC circa £40k hence rechecking the forum see what's what.

GT is the couple which you will get for £40K

GTC is the drop head and you wont get one for £40K

C'mon then, DSL, Why was the R not suitable as a daily driver ?
I'm currently running a Cayenne and quite fancy something a bit more Regal. Please elaborate.

I bought a '96 Turbo R SWB a few months ago and have been using as a daily driver. Absolutely no problems...except 15mpg! Which is not really a 'problem' as over 2/3 years @8k miles per annum, when it's factored in with depreciation and maintenance, I reckon the 'cost of ownenrship' the 2/3 years will be low compared with what I'm getting in return, which is, er, I'll defer to Mr Derestrictor biggrin

Epic.

I've been dithering, getting more and more convinced.
Thank you.

Go for it - you won't regret it if you do, but if you don't you'll suffer for the rest of your life. Every home should have one (a Bentley, that is).

Agreed,

If you get run over by a bus tomorrow, at least you'd have owned a Turbo R today wink

Lol only a month late ... The Turbo R was faultless overall but I have 2 cars and one has to be the jump in and go anywhere car and the Turbo R isn't car park and anywhere friendly.

I got a jag Xfr which I hated and sold in a year then 6 months ago spotting some potentially huge price drops on the horizon I got a lexus gs450 to get me by until the recession bargains crop up

I've decided to keep my sl55 and the daily driver is narrowed down to either a CL500 or maybe 63 or a Bentley GT - one of these will be acquired by spring.

Hi, I was just snooping round this area of PH like a tyre kicker in an upmarket dealership.

Can I as why you didn't like the XFR?

I am considering an XF and XFRs are potentially in my price range.

Sorry to hijack the thread...
