RR Ghost order
Discussion
Having thought about it for a long time, I have today finalised the specification for my RR Ghost.
Since my wife and I had our first baby 15 months ago I have been limited to 4 seaters as I like spending my time with the family when I am not working. I desparately wanted another special car but I wanted one that we can all enjoy together and living near Goodwood, I thought I would give the new Ghost a try.
I went to the factory this afternoon to view the production line and to spec my car ready for delivery in May of next year. There were lots of cars in the factory waiting to be released tomorrow as that is the first day that the Ghost can be registered. Having seen so many cars, I can confirm that in my opinion, the Ghost is a very impressive car. It looks to be extremely well built and looks very special.
Anyway, I have chosen a Dark Indigo (Blue) car with the saphire silver bonnet with a creme light interior. I now cannot wait until next May to take delivery! I am sure the next few months are going to drag!

In order to get 40k worth of options you must need to have the car fully specced. I think I have added about 15k worth of options. Having had many BMWs over the past few years I have learnt to be careful when adding spec!
The process of speccing a RR is great when you do it at the factory and it certainly made it very memorable (and my son loved the chocolate biscuits they gave him!).
The car should be available to test drive at the dealership by early January so I am very much looking forward to a drive in it.

The sense of anticipation must be terrific but it must be a bit different to up speccing a Mondeo!!
In my opinion on the everyday cars you never get your money back on the extras. If there is an extra that you don't have when you part ex then the price gets hammered. It never goes up if you have got that extra.
With top market cars it does however seem to make a difference. You have only to look at the detailed lists that are always given in the sales details of any offered for sale. They even come down to "Chrome Bezels for instruments " or "Fitted Umberellas" or "drilled alloy pedals"
Be interesting to know what you actually specified for your £15k

Malabar Wood trim is the wood that is shown in the original interior photos from when the car was launched. The wood has a hint of red to it and it incorporates quite defined horizontal line patterns in the wood. In my opinion, I thought it suited the RR image whilst also being slightly contemporary. Take a look on the RR website as the woods are shown there.
I have managed to move forward into a March 2010 build slot now so I am even more excited! I look forward to taking it to some PistonHead events as well as the Goodwood breakfast clubs next year.

I test drove the Ghost this morning, and I am now very much looking forward to my delivery in six weeks time. The car is amazing. I drove to the garage in my 6 month old 7 series and I am pleased to say that they are actually quite different to drive. The Ghost manages to be ultra smooth and comfortable whilst also being very good at driving down a country lane. I don't know how they do it, but that acceleration is quite something as well!
