Am I alone in thinking that, in looks at least, R-R has stolen a march on Bentley? Ghost is a far more handsome car than the Mulsanne in my opinion. It may have something to do with the colours that the respective comapnies have chosen for their show models: Jewish Racing Gold makes the Mulsanne look naff, whereas a rich, glossy black does wonders for any car.

The Ghost just edges in front for me but both are glorious cars.

Ghost much better looking for me, and probably a bit cheaper (important?).

I'd expect Mulsanne to be a more characterful and interesting drive, however. I think the Ghost will be very much like a 7-series in the way it covers ground.

All of these points may be true, and we will see when more of these cars reach the road, but I am inclined to agree with the OP. While it may be an imposing thing, maybe the Mulsanne just wasn't brave enough. I was expecting more.

The Ghost on the other hand looks better in every picture I have seen. Every detail seems to have been considered and worked out. If that is available for £190k, against a Flying Spur Speed at £150k I know which I would prefer. If the Mulsanne is going up against the Phantom at £300k I have my doubts whether it would be successful. The Phantom is also a good looking machine - it has suffered from mostly being painted black, which it really doesn't suit. In the lighter metallics it has true class.

The Arnage was the sector leading car for a long time - going forward, I think the Ghost is likely to take over. As for being like a 7-Series, we'll see. I am very sceptical of the 'Bentley, it's just a Volkswagen, Aston Martin, it's just a Ford' line of argument. The Phantom doesn't drive like a BMW, why should the Ghost?

Well, The Mulsanne keeps the characterful old V8, and has been engineered in Crewe by the same people who designed the Arnage (and all the others) whereas the Ghost shares many important parts with the 7 and is largely imported.

The Arnage was only sector-leading in terms of sales, which was more the result of good marketing and a cooler brand - the Arnage is an inferior product to the Phantom and Maybach when viewed in 'rational' terms.

I take your point though, both the Ghost and Mulsanne are not going to feel like Bentleys and Rolls-Royce of old, which is a shame.
