After looking for a while, I have finally found the Silver Shadow I was looking for to share the garage with my Silver Spirit. I saw the car (sourced through my mechanic, Nigel Sandell) on Saturday and I should be tying up the deal tomorrow morning. It's a 1968 car (with the chippendale dashboard) in midnight blue with magnolia leather. Only 3 owners in 41 years and originally owned by the 3rd Earl of Cromer, sometime British Ambassador to Washington! I shall post some decent photos once I've taken delivery, but here are a few in the meantime:

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. The deal was done this morning and I'm picking up the car from Nigel on Saturday. Just in time for the Revival weekend!

A quick update.

The car was delivered on the weekend and I am delighted with it. Very different to my Silver Spirit, but in all the right ways. The first proper trip in the car will be on Sunday as we're off to the Revival.

I spent a few hours last night poring over the (enormous) history that came with the car and have posted below a few of the highlights. There's some really fascinating stuff.

1. The first V5 document I've ever seen for a car over 40 years old which states 'Number of Previous Owners - 1'
2. Paperwork for every single service and repair since the car was new in 1968, every one with a main dealer or recognised specialist. Amazingly, the car has not missed one service in all this time being serviced at least annually and often two or three times a year.
3. All bills amount to over £50,000
4. A letter from Kennings of Mayfair, dated 1975, offering profuse apologies for a bump the car suffered during a post-service road test. I wonder for how long the employee concerned kept his job?!
5. The original 1968 registration document and radio warranty card, both made out to Lord Cromer and with the address noted as 'Barings Bank, Bishopsgate, EC2'.
6. A 1971 resident's parking permit for the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

I wonder what else I'll dig out this evening?

I love that dash by the way, is that a special coachbuilt item, as I thought that the Shadow Mk1 was different. That car looks very very classy.

Looks like the stadard "chippendale" dash - as per launch spec., later downgraded to meet safety regulations / save money.

Yes, it's the original 'Chippendale' dashboard that was fitted to the very early cars. This was superceded by the safety regulated one that most people are familiar with. I understand that a lot of the switches and interior fittings(for example the door handles) are shared with the Silver Cloud.

Yes, still very happy smile The car has just been treated to a new set of lambswool over-rugs, so the interior is now looking as good as the outside!

I've settled into a pattern over the past six months; the Spirit is used Monday to Thursday and the Shadow Friday to Sunday.
