Gentlemen,

I hope someone might be able to help me with the following.

I own a 1987 Silver Spirit (fuel injected). The car is used regularly and has never given me a problem. Until today that is!

I went on a long run, turned off the engine for a few minutes, and on attempting to re-start got no response. The engine didn't attempt to crank at all, although all the dash lights came on as normal. On closer inspection, all I could hear when turning the key was a clicking from the engine bay as if there was an electrical problem of some sort. I checked the battery (all OK) and the starter relay (also OK) and went back inside scratching my head!

An hour later, the car started as normal on the first attempt so I went out again for a few miles. The car ran fine with all the dash gauges displaying normally. On my return, once again it refused to respond (no cranking, just a ticking from the engine bay again). And half an hour later started as normal again!

All this makes me think the problem may have something to do with the engine being warm when starting, rather then cool (when everything seems normal).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Balmoral Green

Starter motor solenoid? Or is the battery as healthy as you think it is?

It turned out to be a loose relay connection. All fixed now.

We're on holiday at the moment so I took the car to the nearest specialist this morning, Silver Lady Services in Bournemouth.

They diagnosed and resolved the fault within 30 minutes and sent me on my way with no charge.

Brilliant service.
