1990 Bentley Turbo R Air Con Problem

I have a 1990 (H) Bentley Turbo R with 77k on the clock with air con that doesn't work, it just stopped. I've checked the fuse and that's OK. The settings on the dash are as advised by the handbook, both on AUTO. When I alter the Blue/Red/White dials there is not always a click you can feel, but you do hear a whirring sound, but nothing happens from then. With no hot or cold air coming out of anywhere.. I've tried every combination with dials, knobs etc but to no avail. Can someone please give me some advice as to what the problem may be? Thank you.
