Hi folks,

My Dad is looking at picking up a used one of these tomorrow, and I will go along for the ride. Does anyone know much about them? Any 'must have' extras on them? Any service/reliability issues (coil packs??) we should look out for?

Many thanks

If it is from a dealer then make sure it has the top level 1 warranty. The list of items to be replaced on mine is growing. Put 19s on it too as the ride is just about ok then with the tyres deflated a bit.

cheers guys...

when you say 'early ones', how early do you mean, and what is wrong with them?

had a look at a couple today. He is very keen on the spur, but wasnt keen on the colour combos seen so far. The hunt continues...

Cheers

Any spur can have the console running through the middle of the rear compartment - it's an option for a 4 or 5 seater.

What is the issue with the centre console?

I know next to nothing about these cars, so any pointers greatly appreciated...

thanks

the cars with the console running through the middle is less desirable and the option was not there on the early 05 55 plates. the option not to have that came in 2006 onwards matey.

I stand corrected.

sorry to sound like an eejit, but does this mean the car came as a 4 or 5 seater (effectively) and that the 5 seater is more desirable?

thanks

the flying spur when it first came out was just a bigger version of the gt. as in the gt it has a console ruinning from the front to the back. the flying spur was just a extension of that. then a option came to not have that console which made it into a proper 5 seated car. it is less deserable as if your buying a big slaoon car and you can only fit 4 people in it, that does not go down well with many people dropping 100 k plus on a car.

Not that simple though. The 4 seat has the reclining rear seats whereas the 5 seat doesn't. They finally changed that on the 09 facelift cars.

Do you mean to say that people buy Bentleys and then pack all their mates in like a loads of chavs going down the town in an old Corsa with wings? Does 4 individual reclining seats not sound much more like the business?

As a chauffeur car, any 4 seat car, Spur, Phant, 'Bach has limited appeal. You can't take 2 couples for example.

4 seats less desirable? For the rental boys maybe. But more exclusive is the way I would describe it.

That doesn't sound like a chauffeur car it sounds like a minicab, with respect. Any time I have gone to the trouble of ordering a chauffeur driven car it has just been for me and the girl.

OK, I'll rephrase it - you can't go out and take 3 lovely ladies home afterwards then.....smile

Yes you can.

Two in the back and one on top of you upside down with her legs either side of the headrest. And the seatbelt still fits.

Just to drag this slightly back to the middle, my Dad is 63, so the chances of him taking 3 lovelies home are remote.

However, the search continues. He has the idea that he wants to scour the auctions to pick up a bargain. Any comments on this idea?

thanks again
