Bentley Turbo R owners
Discussion
I am seriously thinking about buying one of these cars but the only model I have spent any time in was a late RT which I found rode far too hard.
If anyone has such a car and wouldn't mind taking me for a decent spin I would be very grateful and I would be happy to reciprocate in my Ferrari 550.
I will be down in Weybridge, Surrey over the bank holiday weekend if anyone is around.
Many thanks

The standard model is very wafty, despite being firmer than the equivalent Rolls Royce branded car. The RT is firmer still, and, as you have noted, a bit crashy and shuddery over the bumps.
Wheel size and tyre combination has a lot to do with it, I fitted a set of second hand 9.5x18 Continental T wheels with 255/45x18 tyres to my old Turbo R. The turn in was much improved, and slop/roll was diminished, however, I killed the ride. A couple of years back, I put the old set back on the car temporarily when I had the wheels refurbished, and was surprised at how much waftyness I had been missing.
There are no shortage of stories from folks who went out to buy an Arnage T, but who ended up with an Arnage R instead.
Good luck with getting a drive in a standard shod Turbo R down your way, you could always have a chat with Simon or Stuart at Phantom Motor Cars too, they generally have a few examples of R's and RT's in stock.

Thanks for the replies - what I fancy in principle is a late SWB turbo R - the LWB would just be too tricky to park and a bit of pain to squeeze in the garage.
They now look like very good value with £20k buying what looks to be a very good car. What I don't know is how they drive and special they "feel", it will only be a high days and holidays car as I have another car for work.
Anyway offer is still there good spin in someone turbo r in return a good spin in my Ferrari 550.
Am normally based in Cheshire

In general. I'm a big fan of both makes and owned 5 Jaguars, but have yet to try a Bentley.
Try one - you'll love it! But be prepared for the fact that you will have to buy it, because you won't want to give it back. Jags are great, they ride better, the bodies are stiffer so they don't creak, but although they, too, have a traditional wood & leather interior, it's just not in the same class as a Bentley. Oh, and they've got tiddly little engines, too!Bluebottle911 said:

Afre you in Exeter, then? If so, I'll happily take you out in the Turbo R some time and you can see what you make of it.Cerbman said:

Yes, been here 12 years. The Bentley offer is very kind, I'd be in interested to see how she compares to the Jag.

Am considering purchasing a Turbo R too, are there any specific web sites to look at other than Autotrader and PH?
Depending on your budget...http://www.netstoreonline.co.uk/pmcuk/default.asp
Speak to Simon or Stuart, they are well known in RR/Bentley circles and highly regarded by many on this forum.

What is the service schedule pattern for this type of car?
They have eight major schedules, going from 1 to 8, annually, with a 'C' service in between each one, which is oil & filter and general check up. When you get to 8, you start again with a schedule 1.So, ideally, a sixteen year old car will have 1-8, twice, all nicely stamped up, with invoices etc.
However, a schedule 4 and an 8 are huge, and cost thousands, so they might have been skipped. Or history may be very patchy, so price accordingly. If an older car has never had a 4 or an 8, it may well cost a huge amount with regard to a full hydraulics, brakes or suspension overhaul or similar.
Good luck.
If you want any help, give me a shout.
