Hi.
I'm considering lots of options for a new car at the moment.
My preferred option is currently a Porsche 911 C4S (sorry to swear on this forum).

I do however like the Bentley Continental GT. If I were to purchase an early-ish example (04 plate) for about £60k, how much depreciation would I be likely to loose yearly when using the car as an every day car, covering approx 12k miles per year?

It might appear a daft question but although the fuel and insurance bills will be more than a 911, if depreciation is less, the GT might actually work out more cost effective to run. As I said, no decisions made yet, I'm just considering all my options.

Also, can anyone advise what servicing costs are likely to be? I wouldn't bother with main dealer but a good, adequetly equipt independant.

Many thanks,
Lee.

Hi Lee
My Grandad runs a GT and has done for the past few years, he gets discount with his Saga card, he has had a Stannah lift fitted so he can get in and out of it with ease.
To be honest you cant go wrong it even has a glass holder for his teeth and his colostomy bag just fits in the door pocket. All in all a great buy.......

IF you are my Grandad biggrin

Hi Lee

Basically if you are worried about depreciation then Bentley are not for one
If one has to ask how much they are for one to buy from new, then also they are not for one

Unless you are on "Premiership Footballer" income or vulgarly have won the lottery
one would be better sticking your Wedge into something with an RV8
or even having an RV8 in a Wedge.

Hope this helps one

Yer - thanks guys.
It was actually a serious question. If I can pick up for £55k and not loose a great deal on it, its a go-er.

Insurance is "only" £1,100 and petrol I can just about live with. Loosing £7k a year depreciation, I can't!

If depreciation has now settled to only say... £2k a year, then I'd love a GT.

I know its not wedge shaped, but it is a Bentley...

Er, you want a £55k buy in and and £2k a year depreciation. Can't see it happening with anything other than a classic.

Lee it will loose 2K or alot more, the first time you dont take it to a main dealer, for a service.

Ever thought of a Jellycopter ?

And anyways up, I dont care what you buy, but if it aint a Wedge............ You will still have to park around the back hehe

Very nice Wyn, but not for an everyday car - I'd get a little bit wet!

Very much so Daz - looks beautiful.
I'm still trying to get my head around the maths as I don't want to spunk some of my inheritance on depreciation.

I would have thought an early Continental GT will be shedding around £4K a year in depreciation at least, and be costing around £2K a year for servicing and general maintenance.

You could buy a Wedge every year & give it to me.....you'd be better off financially & you'd feel better coz you'd be making a genuine enthusiast very happy. biggrin

Many thanks for your reply Balmoral Green - this was exactly the answer I was looking for. The servicing costs are more than I was banking on (I was thinking nearer £1k per year) and the depreciation is more than I can live with. It is frustrating being able to afford the car but not be able to stomach the running costs frown
I have lost a small fortune on my X5 over the past year and I don't intend on repeating it!

Maybe see what the Conti GTs are doing in a couple of years as I expect they will reach a certain value and will then depreciate very gratiously. In the mean time, what nice sub £50k motor can I buy that I can actually afford to run???

Avoiding depreciation in a £50k modern doing 12k a year sounds rather tricky. I suspect the best way to minimise it would be to buy something cheaper - maybe a BMW E46 M3 or 996 spec carrera 2.

Alternatively why not buy a cheapist runaround and then something special for high days and holidays.

You are going to get a bill for £5K for repairs and servicing now and again
