RT on T wheels

Ta to warren for his comments on the phone -- my RT is now riding on Continental T wheels at 18x9.5 255/50/18 (up from 17x8 RT wheels with 255/55/17). Steering is much better, much crisper, ride is only slightly down
The chaps at PMC are sending the four RT wheels off for refurb and I might ebay them. There are the four michelin tyres at PMC too if anyone wants them -- fronts are mostly worn down but still legal for a few thousand hard driving miles, rears are 2/3rds worn.

What price good looks eh? I think the Continental T/Sedanca wheel is the best of the bunch, they really lift and update the cars appearance. My car looks more like a 97/98 than a 90 with them.
I've since had the original single oatmeal coachline put back on, it looks much better than without, it was left off after the car was painted.

It's been almost two years since you first posted about this - car looks stunning!
The 18" T wheels are exactly what the RT needs - they look great - I always felt that the standard RT wheels were a bit disappointing.....shame about the cost!

Yes they would. They are the largest you can fit without modification. Although to be sure, it would be worth checking up with pmcuk.com or your dealer/specialist before buying any. Bentley Luxembourg were not happy when they saw the wheels on my car when they had it in for repairs following a holiday mishap though, they were really 
Bentley Luxumborg should be reminded of what the Bentley factory shipped -- the Olympian special edition version of the RT had the 18" wheels as standard. . Its certainly listed on the parts database for those chassis numbers.

Why's that?The service manager reckoned they were too big, too heavy, and would kill the ride. He also said it would put stress and strain on the suspension, and steering.
Funny thing is, they did put that size on other variants of the car, and those components remained pretty much the same.

On that topic, what is the ride like in the Turbo R and the related cars? I recall reading in an Autocar feature that the ride in the Continental (R and T types) is not all that smooth which does seem not to fit with the idea of such cars. Is the same true of the four door cars?

the RT ride is no whipped-cream limo -- its more sports saloon. And thats with brand new parts throughout -- it gets more crashy if you have wear and tear.
dont forget you can have either 255 width tyre or 275 width on the car. The Conti T had 275, and thats a lot heavier tyre than the 255.
I have a mint set of RT wheels up for sale, by the way -- taken off my car, and been fully refurbed by PMC's wheel refurbers. If you are looking for 17' wheel for a turbo then this is a lot cheaper than new 18" wheels -- the 18"s are 500 per wheel plus 200 center cap plus 250 tyre, all plus vat.
my set of 4 refurbs (no tyres) plus spare wheel (un-refurb but good wheel, brand new michelin tyre) would be a quarter of that
