Actually the word 'sales' is being generous.

I popped into a Rolls Royce showroom yesterday to look at the convertible Phantom in the window. Not only dressed smartly but seriously semi-tempted (!) by the car. Not sure, but warm to the idea.

Sales person? Nope. Eventually some Russian girl who'd been manning the phones sort of stood next to me for a bit and smiled. 'It's an impressive car isn't it?' says I 'yes'. 'What sort of delivery are you quoting?' 'seven' 'Pardon?' 'Ve haf seven now, ahbowt, yes, 2 years'. 'Thanks, you've been a great help, bye.'

I know Rolls would say the car sells itself or some some other phrase - but you'd think in a central London showroom they'd at least have someone to say 'good morning' or something!

Hats off to Bentley for a rather more intelligent approach when I bought mine!

Was that the one in Berkeley Sq? If so I know the chap who runs it. He would not be impressed....

Yes it was.

Please do feel free to pass on my mail to him, hopefully it'll buck them up a bit. I was tempted to pass on to RR, but then I would start being a grumpy old git, which I'm not.

However, I would not buy a RR from this location.

They all sound very nice people.

Shame they weren't working there when I went in.
