Good lord they're awful!

There used to be a company many years ago in this part of the world(It probably went out of business 20yrs ago)called 'Top Hat'.Basically they would chop the roof off virtually any vehicle and replace it with a canvas roof(non folding)with push clips. Most of their work involved Yugos and Novas but some silly sod took them a mint old Bentley(cant remember which one-think it was a 50's model)and they chopped the roof off it.The problem was that the rigidity was severely compromised,so much so the whole car wobbled and shook terribly when on the road, and after a lot of head scratching the 'engineers' at Top Hat handed him the car back with all the bits off it.From memory the car ended up being broken for parts.

Wedding hire, or would suit the minor dictator of a small nation, the type who like to wear either curtains or military fatigues.

i think 5WH knows there is nothing wrong with the car but i belive he takes issue , like a lot of rolls traditionalists with people taking cutters and chainsaws to rollers and doing their own conversion
this conversion is so good that i dont think of it as a shadow convertible but more rather a corniche convertible that has been converted to 4dr

Four door convertibles are always associated in my mind with Hitler. They are a bit wrong, but you still look.

I prefer the standard two door convertible like this one. Just after a paint job of course.

For quite a large gallery of Bentley Mulsanne/Rolls Royce Silver Spirit based Convertibles you can check out my blog at

http://www.bentleyspotting.com/2007/05/bentley-mul...

There are 17 different angle grinder convertibles in there so far.

www.bentleyspotting.com is 1 year old this week, and there are now over 240 articles on Bentley motor cars and the occasional Rolls Royce.

Jordan

There were also a couple of companies who produced convertible Lotus Esprits...

OMG theres some real shockers on there. At one time RR would sue anyone who disfigured their cars in that way.The white stretch convertible(last picture) is truly dreadful.
