Dad's looking a one of these. Just curious to learn a bit more about them. A standard S3 seems a hell of a lot cheaper than this one by Mulliner.

Do you pay a premium for the specialist body work is there more to it?

Your experience and expertise is appreciated.

The chassis and running gear are identical, they have a seperate chassis btw, the last Rolls Royce to do so (well, excepting the Phantom limo). The standard S3 has the standard factory body on it, which I think was made by pressed steel. The Mulliner is very different, uses more aluminium, and a different interior too. The S3 is more or less a standard production car, although still home made, hardly mass produced. The Mulliner is very much a premium hand crafted job though. Obviously, if you see them side by side, they are as different as chalk & cheese. The S3 is great value, a proper car with real gravitas. But the Mulliner is something else entirely cloud9

If you arent too familiar with the cars, and are in no great hurry to buy, I would recommend you pop along to the RREC annual rally which is sometime in June, not sure of the date, might be on the RREC website, you dont need to book, you can pay at the gate. Get talking to owners and dealers who will have display stands. You will soon pick up the differences and learn a hell of a lot in just one day.

Hi,
Annual rally 16/17 June at Kelmarsh Hall, Northants.
I have an S3, and it is a lovely car. The continentals are rarer and more expensive to buy. I think they may be faster too, but that may have been in the S1/ S2 guises. There is a good book you can buy for research called the 'Ultimate Portfolio' www.motorbase.com/shop/profiles/item.ehtml?i=543
You can also try for info on www.rrbew.co.uk
Rgds,
Andy

I see your Bently S3 FS and raise you a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 3 Flying Spur wink

1963 iirc. Only made 17 of them (not sure if thats total or year specific). The FS has a different profile at the back (longer and lower iirc, normal S3 has a shorter more rounded boot afaik)

Im driving it to Castle Combe next month for a Drive & Ride Day(well, riding, no driving for them) for handicaped and/or under priveliged kids smile

Yes, could be up for the Le Mans Classic with Dad. Its on my list of things to do, along with the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Revival meeting.
