just been to check up on the car to notice that what looked like the front suspension had collapsed!!! the arches over the tyres so they couldnt turn and no gap between tyre and inside arch. Called rolls to be told its gone in to storage mode, apparently the car drops nearly to the floor for some stupid reason...i dont understand why it would need apart from making owners worry about expensive suspention bills.

ill add pictures later. stupid car.

Presumably it goes back to normal once you start it, or have you got to get some Rolls monkey to plug a laptop in it to wake up / stiff you for a few £££

Sounds pretty stupid to me, but maybe because it's such a heavy car it does it to save strain on the suspension? Or maybe it's so pikey scum can't steal it if they see one parked somewhere for a few days so decide they're going to have a go because they know it hasn't been moved?

I think the second is more likely to be most correct TBH. Both pretty far-fetched though. How long have you not used it for (if you don't mind me asking, of course)?

Happens with older Mercedes as well! Older Citroens too, DS, CX, BX etc.

Its possibly to lessen the strain on pipe joins in the suspension, it maybe decreases the likelyhood of cracks and fractures, if it is under less strain. Also the pressure in the suspension system wouldn't be able to keep constant while the car is out of action.

This is why they are more expensive cars, they have trick suspension for a smoother ride quality!

I don't know what sort of suspension the new RR has, but the old RR's and Bentley badged RR's like mine, have the Citroenesque suspension, and they do sit on their arse after being stood for a week or three. But they rise up again as soon as they are started.

It sounds like a major inconvenience if its in a 'safe' mode, especially if no fault is found.

BG there is a valve which isolates the rear suspension circuit from the rest -- this closes when the ignition is switched off.

My RT did what you said -- Phantom changed the valve, and now he is fully erect (!) for weeks at at time.

They did explain the point of storage mode when I was at the RR 'factory'. Buggered if I can remember it though.

Our Silver Shadow had the control valve removed because is started leaking, so the local RR specialist disabled it.

Our 6.9 Mercedes does it all the time, it does look very strange. We let it warm up for 5 mins and its fine after that!
