never had a mootch in this section of ph before.
im really into my minis and race a 1961 1071 cc one - really good fun.
anyhoo.
my dads got a s1 that he bought for my sisters wedding a few years ago, originally it was bought with a use for the wedding, and move on quickly, but we started poking around underneath.....
we knew it was shabby when he bought it - but yikes! it was terrible - all poprivits, alloy panels and thick filler.
so far, we have remade all the inner sills, and i have repaired the fronts of both wings - the drivers side was rust, plates and filler for the first foot, the bumper was holding it all together - that took some major bending and cutting, and with a skim of filler it actually looks very good.
ive now moved onto the splash guard between the wing and the drivers door - but had a nightmare when all the bolts snapped off on the door hinge - by the time three had snapped i gave up trying to get them out! - ive had to cut the door post open to extract the captive plates, repair them and re-instate them to the post.
its a lot of work, and even when its finished and painted will still be a shabby s1, but the engine is so sweet and the trim is mint i think its going to earn someone a nice living as a wedding car.
certinley makes a change from woking on minis, thats for sure

Nice shape, very regal. The final incarnation of the B60 is my favourite engine too. Nightmare cars for monster rot though, still, at least the hefty chassis is seperate.
they are a lovely shape, though i think the bentley front looks far better than the rolls, just because of the way the grill flows into the front, your right about the engine as well - it shares so many visual tags with what rr where doing back in the 30's, and is obvious how the same mind set was at work.
but, the rust.....
god can they rust, the mud traps underneath are terrible, but i suppose that in those days you would have a 'man' to clean the car every week, and get rid of it after a few years.
still at least the front sidelight panels arnt soldered on like on mk6's and r'types - otherwise no doubt i would be remaking those as well.......
the chassis on this one is okay, bar the normal rust on the o/s rear chassis leg, not sure why they thought putting the battery directly on top of the leg was a good idea, but hey ho.
also, did you know (and we have measured it) the rear seat in a s1 is actually narrower than the rear seat in a mini
