Thinking of getting a Bentley for the first time. Question is, which one? It will/would be a third car. No heavy use. My priority is avoiding depreciation. Looked at sub £20k cars before but been a little disappointed. Want something cosmetically first class. No point in having one otherwise, is there?

Choice seems to come down to Turbo R, Brooklands or early green lable Arnage.

Any thoughts/advice/insights gratefully received on which would be best - and where to go to get a good one.

Thanks in advance.

Condition Service History and Rust.........firstly most cars that are 96 or older (ie within your budget of £20K) will have had a bit of paintwork as these cars do rust here and there (nothing terrible just wheel arches, door bottom corners etc, I would want to see evidence of recent expenditure and servicing, common practice is car goes for service, gets the stamp in the book and the repairs needed to get the car to 100% are not carried out and you get the bill!!! Complete service history is a must for resale.
There are plenty to choose from, however I reject 8/10 I am offered due to condition or the fact they need too much money spending on them to make them 100%.

Turbo R is quickest, although a LPT Brooklands (from 96 onwards) is similarish in performance...pre 96 Brookland are normally aspirated but not slow....economy (if you are bothered) 12 ish around town, I get 19mpg on a steady motorway run from my LPT Brooklands

Colours.......light coloured interiors are supposed to be best for resale and certainly look nice, but I have never had problems selling cars with a black interior....exterior colours, avoid White, Browns, Bright Red, best are Metallic Dark Blue, Balmoral Green, Mica Red Pearl, Grey Metallics etc....

If you have any more questions give me a shout and I will help if I can, incedently my 96 LPT is currently for sale.

Just re read your post, if you can spend more I would buy a RT400 (400 bhp Turbo R) made in very limited number £35K should buy a nice one, shouldnt depreciate too much.

Or even rarer, and certainly as depreciation proof as you can get, a Turbo S.

Arnage Green Label, not liked, it's an OK car, but its got the wrong heart, personally, I would like to see all these abberations rounded up and destroyed, although Darwin didnt really need any help, the evolutionary dead end was self evident with the sales figures and general reaction against it, and that was before the corporate big boys had drawn straws too.

Some parallels with the 4 litre of 1931 methinks, and then the takeover.

The current GT/Spur funnily enough doesnt suffer the same stigma, yes they have their detractors, but not quite to the same degree.

Gosh i'm being harsh, still, it's only opinion, and this is just the internet thats all

there is a very nice green turbo r at balmoral -- had a good look at it in their showroom area, and it looked mint. Priced around 29k
