Arnage 2005 R Advice - Cam/Tappets
Discussion
Hello!
I have put a deposit down on a 2005 Bentley Arnage R with 97k miles and full Bentley SH. I then made the mistakes of reading the issues with them, mainly in this age range, premature cam/tappet wear. Either a very expensive rebuild or a replacement engine.
My question is just how common is this? So many people quoting this don't appear to have ever owned one or had a 'friend' who did. Are there any actual current/previous owners who could share their experience? If it is the case I'd rather lose the deposit obviously.

It's common enough to where the factory updated the engine to roller tappet cams in the last series. My Arnage T gets a little noisy when warm. The smart money is to use a high zinc oil Some have suggested a heavier weight like 10W60. The factory specifies 0W40.
I wonder if they did what other manufacturers did at this time by using thinner oils and higher running temperatures to bring down emmisions, the issue isn't there on the red label in the same way. I'll probably avoid this one if it's not been done, it's at the higher mileage compared to most others so it's not worth the risk.
