Any opinions on diesel Bentayga?
Discussion
Hi all,
Currently have a Cayenne Petrol PHEV as the family runabout but fancy an upgrade and like the Bentayga.
I don't do moon miles and not super-bothered about mpg but I'm wondering if anyone has owned/driven a diesel Bentayga?
Setting aside the notion that Diesel engines should not be in a Bentley it seems to get very positive reviews in terms of refinement, massive torque right from idle and sequential turbos and a lag-eliminating electric compressor.
Anyway, just wondered what people's informed (or uninformed!) opinion is?

An interesting video about luxury SUV depreciation, including the Bentayga.
Personally, I just order what I want and give little thought to depreciation.

A friend of mine has a diesel Bentayga and I've had the opportunity to drive it a on a few ocassions. Currently have a Cayenne Petrol PHEV as the family runabout but fancy an upgrade and like the Bentayga.

I despise it when people say "You can't tell it's a diesel", but in my experience with the car, the ONLY time you can tell its a diesel is when it's being started and even then it very quickly becomes almost inaudible. The same owner also has a 2016 Mulsanne with the 6.75 V8 petrol, I can confirm that it's noticeably louder than the Bentayga under almost any level of acceleration. Not obnoxiously so, the Mulsanne does have a lovely woofle but it is definitely louder.
The Bentayga hardly uses any fuel, even on relatively short local trips the owner is getting around 30mpg, and the cars long term 18k mile trip is well into the 30s, about 32-33 from memory which is remarkable given the level of performance available should you need it. According to the official figures, the Mulsanne accelerates slightly slower than the diesel Bentayga, and fuel consumption is double what the diesel Bentayga can achieve in the same circumstances.
I prefer the Mulsanne despite it being a little flawed, I would say it's probably the best all-round car I've ever driven. For the prices being asked at the moment it would be a tough choice, but the new list prices for each would have made it a no brainer for me.

Owned 2 and wish i had never sold them, what a car, after initial warm up you will never know its a diesel from inside cabin, mpg is outstanding,we drove from Byfleet to Paris then back to taunton somerset before we needed to fill up again, think it was nearly 750 miles to a tank from memory.
Bentley did a lot of work to make sure the car has that wafting feeling so has a supercharger as well as turbos.
Problem is now getting a nice spec low mileage example, ive been looking to,the other car to give some thought to is the cayenne 4.2 diesel s another cracking car.
