Overheating GTC V8

A mate just took his GTC on a hoon to Spain with some other petrolheads. Unfortunately he has had a major overheating incident after a very spirited drive. The car has had to be recovered. His is not an early car (post 2011) and probably well maintained.

Is this a known issue? I was thinking of getting one, but not so sure now.

Yes cooling fan motor failure is a common problem with the V8 models. Apart from that pretty robust bit of kit if you are looking at one pay particular attention to the hood ,look for little holes at the rear edge of the hood next to the rear window and get it checked for stress fractures in the roof frame , a very very common problem , normally happens when dheads open the roof at too high a speed and the structure fails .
