Chaps,

I’ve got a terrible itch for some real luxury in the shape of either a Wraith or Dawn so I’m leaning on the impressive depth of PH knowledge for anyone with experience of owning a Wraith and/ or Dawn?

On the Wraith, what is the actual difference between the series one cars and the post 2017 series 2 cars and is it worth the step up?

On the Dawn, can they be used without feeling too inconspicuous?

All views and help appreciated as always

I think Chris Harris ran a phantom and said the service costs were ruinous, I assume the others would be the same. I know Brendog (downhill biker) and he had a dawn for the day and said it was the best car he had ever sat in

If you phone Austin Owen specialist cars in Essex Austin will give you an honest opinion from a traders point of view, he has sold them all and will have used them himself. He has always been very honest with me about cars even when he has one of the cars to sell.

I had a 2018 Wraith Black Badge for a spell. A beautiful car and certainly the ultimate luxury Coupe, it was an itch I had to scratch and enjoyed it very much.

On the downside, its big, very big which wasn't great out in the sticks living on a country lane. Also less of a driver's car than the new Bentley GT Speed which is my current waft mobile and goes round corners fast too.

If you pick up a current gen Wraith, give me a shout as I still have the OEM custom car cover and battery conditioner available.

I too had a box to tick and bought a Wraith a couple of years ago. I was initially a bit underwhelmed. Comparing it to my Bentley GT at about 10% of the value, it wasn't ten times as good. Maybe 10% better, however I defined it. So, ten times the cost, for a tiny improvement. Also, I live in an area where I see a Rolls maybe once every couple of years, and was a bit perturbed about being in others' faces.

However, I soon warmed to the car, have never had anything other than a good or at least polite reaction, and people have kept any negative thoughts to themselves. If I didn't have open topped cars (and I really mean it when I refer to my Morgan 3 Wheeler) I'd probably have gone for the Dawn, but the Wraith is just fine. It is big, but it's supposed to be, and it can't compare to the Bentley if you want to press on, which I rarely do.

Moreover, I still can't quite believe it's mine, given where I started, and that counts for a lot.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

You've touched on all the things I was concerned about, thes size of the thing, is it a bit in your face (I too am in a place where I've never seen one) and the worry that after the initial glow I might get bored with it.

Also, at similar money you cant ignore the new Continental / GTC.

The Bentley will clearly be a more dynamic thing, but I wonder if it'd have the same sense of occasion?

Also, specific question, is there much differance between the series 1 and series 2 Wraith?

If I remember correctly the Series 2 car was a fairly mild facelift with new trim and wheel options, resculpted LED headlights, new front bumper, suspension improvements, not much else.

I have a 2021 Dawn and a 1951 mkVI Bently.
Both were bought at about the same time and I am so much more impressed with the quality of the old Bentley. The Dawn has a crappy plastic petrol filler cap, when my 'fiat'abarth had a lovely alloy one. The 'chrome' dash organ knobs are obviously chrome plated plastic or mazak type things. It is amazing to drive for something weighing so much and I don't regret having tried it. However I don't think I would consider buying another. I really don't think the attention to detail and quality you should be entiltled to expect for the price is there.

Oh, I forgot to add that the actual boot space in the Dawn is truly comical for a car of this size! We plan to do a bit of a tour this year and packing will be a bit of a challenge as we try to travel with the roof down when ever it isn't pissing it down, and with the roof down the boot is tiny.

Chrome plated plastic would totally put me off on a car that costs that much….it istaking the mickey out of the buyer by palming off a cheap fake for full price imo.

I’m sure I remember them banging on about chrome plated solid brass organ stops , if you’ll excuse the expression!

If they are plastic, that’s unforgivable
