Arnage T Advice
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm hoping you learned folk will be able to assist so here goes......
I've had a hankering for an Arnage T for a while now, and am now getting even keener as soon enough it'll be impossible to own things like this in the UK, as the eco warriors will string me up as a non-believer, so perhaps now is the time.
I have a couple of questions:
1) What are the key things to look out for when buying ?
2) Has anyone on here updated the sat-nav to something a bit newer (mainly so I can attach my iPhone for tunes) ?
Just to add some context, I'd be looking for as late a car as I could find so either a 2008 or 09, and I'd be looking to buy from a reputable Indy, not privately. Full detailed service history would also be a given I'm not interested in the fuel consumption etc, as I know it's ruinous, but as I only do 4-5k a year, I can take that on the chin for a year or two.
I've been running V8 and V12 Vantage Astons for the past 7-8 years, so I'm not naïve as to what these sorts of machines cost to both own and run. Really I'm just looking for a bit of advice from someone who's actually owned one.
It's actually a toss up between the Arnage T and 17/18 GTC V8S. Yes, I know they're vastly different cars with very different price tags. The head says V8S all the way, the heart says bks, you're a long time dead, get the Arnage and then swap it out for the V8S once the itch has been scratched.
Nice dilemma to have I know.
Any help or guidance gratefully received.
Cheers
Ryan

In my opinion the biggest potential bugbears with an Arnage, whether T or otherwise, are the head gasket risk (and potential associated problems) and some reported issues with camshafts/tappets. However, as you appear to be looking at a my2007 onwards that shouldn't be a problem as the engine was revised from then. From memory, the 6-speed box was introduced at the same time.
If not aware, research will show the reported issues, which appear to affect the more powerful versions more often for the head gaskets; however, many have had them replaced now. I can't answer your satnav question.

Good afternoon,
I have owned my Arnage T for 10 years and 100k miles. Superb car! Quite old school! We also run a 2007 GTC w12.
I replaced the satnav with an alpine touch screen. Anything of the right size could be used so that should not be a problem. Although for music, it may be…. I installed a parrot and a speaker under the dash to give me Bluetooth connected music whilst leaving the original stereo in place.
I recommend searching for one with a proper history. They are around!
Going from Arnage to GTC the plastic bits will bother you!
A tank of fuel lasts around 300 miles….not too bad!
Yellow Engine management and airbag lights often pop up and generally need a reset.
A generally lovely car.
Happy hunting!

Is there a particular reason why you particularly mention the T ?
I don't know whether you've driven both the R and T but some people prefer the ride of the R; it's purely a personal thing but if you haven't driven an R I wouldn't automatically rule one out and as you're after a later model, the R is virtually as powerful/'torquey' as the earlier Ts. It might widen your choice.

Imperious - better looking than a RR - last of the great Bentleys - just plain classic good looks. What more casn you ask for?
The performance of the Arnage T is just staggering. Floor the pedal in sport mode and you will experience an endless surge of power that never falters. For all practical purposes, just as fast as a GT.
The GT is just another jelly mould car, no longer catching the eye of onlookers. Not so the Arnage T - it still inspires adoring comments - it is huge!
Mine is a 2006 Mulliner 2 (for sale) and I have had it three years. Before that I had a GT. Both have their fair share of Audi or VW parts, which can help keept the cost down. The main difference is size. In the GT there is not a lot of room, and to keep you from flopping about, the seats grip you in one place. Postural changes are difficult to relieve pressure on your rump. In the Arnage, you have all the room you could wish for both front and rear with all 4 seats electrically adjustable.
My advice? Buy the latest model you can afford. Go the whole hog for the full experience and get the T (ideally Mulliner II). Look for a decent service history and don't be aftraid to buy privately. Some Indies are not as scrupulous as you may wish.Above all, drive one - not just round the block, but for a 100 mile test drive. You'll be smitten.
I live on the Isle of Wight, but if you can be bothered to get here, I'll take you out in mine.

I have an '07 Arnage R and an '02 V12 Vanquish. I like the softer versions of both cars (R vs T and Vanquish vs Vanquish S).
The Arnage has definitely been more reliable, but I think the Vantages you've been running are also more reliable than a first-gen Vanquish. So your experience would probably be relatively comparable.
I've had the Arnage for 5 or 6 years now. Plenty of time to have scratched the itch, but I have no desire to change it out.

Thanks all for the input, it's very much appreciated.
The wife is pushing more for the GTC V8S, as she said the Arnage is too big for her to drive.......I'm not so sure though.
I've been reading up about the ownership experience of Conti's, and it does seem a bit mixed, which surprises me. I appreciate even a 4-6 year old car will probably continue to depreciate like a lead balloon, that I can live with (sort of). The bigger one for me is whether they're reliable, and whether it would end up being a constant running battle with the warranty underwriter or not. Aston were absolutely superb (with me anyway) with any warranty item, and they even did a few bits courtesy of goodwill, like replace a cracked waterfall dash etc.
I've noticed that the warranty excludes things like the Sat-Nav and info systems etc.......seems a bit strong.
I'm still keener on the Arnage and will keep an eye out, but if the "right" GT comes along in the meantime then I might be swayed.

Be careful if you buy a GTC - you might need to do a bit of research. Some models or years had a problem withthe roof tearing on the passenger side rear corner. I'm not sure how extensive the problem was or at what point Bentley applieed a fix.
Needless to say, a new hood is expensive! Can you get a torn soft top repaired? Don't know!
