Clarification required:

Does the gear box select "P" when the ignition/key is removed regardless of the position of the gear selector lever ?

Cheers

No, not really.

The Shadow (1 & 2) is designed such that the self levelling only activates once the car is loaded. It shouldn't be set up such that the levelling is used to maintain the unladen static ride height. IIRC, the ws manual states that the hydraulics should be disconnected when initially setting the suspension.

The hydraulics should only come into use once the car starts to be loaded. However, some people (incorrectly) set the static ride height using the levelling, meaning it's always in use. In that case, it's possible that a system leak might cause a drop in level.

As an approximate guide, the chrome strip should be level with the centre of the wheel in the unladen static position.

The Spirit's rear suspension is slightly different to the Shadow's so I can't comment on whether the same applies.

Not sure what happened there, the above should have been in the suspension thread. My reply disappeared then re-appeared, strange!

With regard to the actual question on this thread, I'm fairly sure that it does automatically select Park.

I think it's in the handbook but unfortunately I can't check mine at the moment.

Think these 2 responses should have been to my suspension question not the "P" question.

However, I think you are say no matter how long the car have been standing the rear suspension should be at the nominal height unless the rear springs have slumped or ???

Re the suspension, yes. The self levelling should not influence the static unladen-ride height.

There is a useful Australian RR forum which is good for technical queries; might be worth a look if of interest.
