I am negotiating with a Land Rover dealer who has in stock a Bentley.

They want to give me one of their own warranties, but I don't have one of their dealerships nearby and anyway I wouldn't trust them to work on it.

The dealer has just called and said that they've spoken to Bentley and the Bentley extended warranty can be transferred. I have a hunch that it cannot, which is usually the case with such products.

The dealership then said, "and anyway, how would they know you didn't buy it privately?"

Does anyone know the answer to this conundrum please?

The Bentley warranty can only be transferred if you are buying it privately.
You have to fill out a form with the seller - my dealer knew both of us so was able to confirm very easily that it was a private sale.

Done this in 2016. We have been asked to prove that it was private sale which was proved by sending the bank statement of both of us.

This seems to support what I thought.

The selling dealer seems to be prepared to say just about anything to get their own way, and I think this is another example.

I might pass on this car and wait until one comes up through Bentley,
